The Story Behind: 5 de Mayo.
Did you know that the reason this celebration is bigger in the USA than the actual Mexican independence day is that five years after that great victory for Mexico of the Puebla battle on May 5th? Mexican natives from Puebla went to Texas where the leading General of that battle, Ignacio Zaragoza was from, to celebrate. Sixteen years prior to Texas becoming part of the USA.
A big celebration there became a tradition and a great expression of Mexican pride, remaining nowadays a big day to celebrate, Mexican style!
