Who Is Sparrow? The Little Dog Behind a Collection with a Big Story
Before Eclectic Array had stores, a growing team, or shelves filled with handmade pieces, there was my car packed with products, a big idea I was still figuring out, and a little dog named Sparrow sitting beside me.
Sparrow was there before almost everything.
She came with me to local markets in Palmilla and Pescadero, waited through pop ups, welcomed customers, and eventually became a familiar face as we began opening our first Eclectic Array stores.
She wasn't simply the shop dog.
She was my companion, my constant cheerleader, and part of the beginning.
And every August, during Sparrow's birthday month, I find myself coming back to her story, and the promise we made to each other.
The Promise That Changed Everything
In 2022, Sparrow became very sick with an incurable illness.
During those final days together, we made a promise: to take life one day at a time and to always show up as our best selves.
It sounds simple. But when life gets difficult, showing up with courage, love, and resilience can be anything but.
Sparrow kept that promise until her very last breath.
She reminded me of something she had quietly been teaching me all along: we can't control every chapter we're given, but we can choose how we show up for it.
That promise stayed with me.
And eventually, it became the heart of the Sparrow Collection.
From Sparrow's Final Collar to Chiapas
The Sparrow Collection began with something deeply personal: the strap design of Sparrow's final collar.
That pattern became the inspiration for a wider collection of handcrafted pieces, including dog collars, totes, clutches, wristlets, and other accessories. Each one carries the same distinctive woven design, allowing Sparrow's story to continue through pieces that can be worn, carried, gifted, and shared.
The straps are handmade in Chiapas, Mexico, by Pascuala and a community of more than 50 women artisans. Their intricate patterns reflect the craftsmanship and textile traditions of the region, while high quality leather finishing brings together heritage, durability, and contemporary design.
I love what that represents.
Something that once belonged to Sparrow became the starting point for a collection that now creates ongoing work for an artisan community, and allows her story to travel far beyond Eclectic Array.
As the collection grows, so does our need for the artisans' work. Every piece sold creates demand for another handwoven strap, and another opportunity for the women behind it.
That's the kind of impact we believe in: creating products people genuinely love, so beautiful craftsmanship can continue creating opportunity.
A Tribute to Being Your Best Self
The Sparrow Collection is about much more than remembering one very special dog.
It's about what she left behind.
Love. Loyalty. Resilience.
And a reminder that feels just as meaningful today as it did when Sparrow and I first made our promise:

This August, during Sparrow's birthday month and International Dog Month, we're celebrating her, and all the dogs who somehow become witnesses to our lives.
The one sleeping under your desk.
The one waiting for you at the door.
The one beside you through new beginnings, difficult chapters, and some of your happiest memories.
They give us their best every day.
